Main Purpose & Function
• Ensure vehicles are maintained efficiently
• Ensure transport procedures are complied with
• Ensure vehicles/trailers are used without defects
• Ensure compliance with Operators Licence rulings
Duties & responsibilities
1. Oversee the completion of all AM/PM vehicle defects, any non completions
must be reported immediately to the Transport Manager & the vehicle/trailer
VOR’d.
2. NEVER knowingly let a vehicle or trailer be taken onto the Public Highway with a defect on it.
3. Assign work/ breakdowns accordingly to each mechanic
4. Assist with work/breakdowns when required to do so
5. Provide holiday cover for any fitters
6. Ensure work is completed by each mechanic within reasonable timescales
7. Arrange all 6 week vehicle & trailer inspections/ services, MOT
prep/inspections with the Transport Manager using spare vehicles and trailer to
cover where possible
8. Ensure service sheets, brake test etc paperwork is passed to the Transport
Manager on a daily basis
9. Take vehicles/trailers for MOT
10. Book light commercial vehicle MOT’s
11. Book tachograph calibrations
12. To prioritise work based on the company demands
13. Monitor damage/ foul play and report to the Transport Office ALL damage to
vehicles.
14. Carry out regular stock takes & order replacement stock with John Dudley
15. Always ensure work is carried out cost effectively
16. Comply with Operators Licence rulings & undertakings (if any)
17. Ensure legislation is kept up to date & distributed accordingly between your
team
18. To approve/decline mechanic’s holiday requests
19. Carry out regular appraisals on mechanics
20. Ensure absences/sickness/ AWOL of all fitters is reported to HR on the
morning of the first day.
21. Discuss staffing requirements, as & when, with HR
22. Arrange new starters with assessments, ensuring regular contact and updates are made between yourself & the trainer/assessor. (minimum 1 week training)
23. Immediately report: any accidents, incidents, and near misses; environmental
hazards; health & safety breaches to HR/directors
24. Ensure the workshop is Maintained for a safe working environment throughout
activities, including keeping working areas tidy and access to walkways and
emergency exits clear.
25. When required, you will work from different depots within the company
26. Comply with all Health & Safety, HR, Environmental and Transport related
policies & procedures.
27. To follow all guidance given when trained/ assessed.
28. Uphold the company profile to the best of your abilities
