Engagement Producer (New Platforms) - Manchester Evening News
* Full-time
* Contract Type: Permanent
* Division: Editorial
* Salary Currency: GBP Sterling
* Department: Regionals
Do you want to work in one of the country's most vibrant newsrooms, covering the best city in the world? The Manchester Evening News is the largest regional website in the country with a huge audience and we are looking for an Engagement Producer to join us, focusing on the newest social media platforms.
Here at the MEN, we pride ourselves on setting the agenda, making a difference and reaching audiences across Manchester and beyond. This is a unique opportunity to manage the MEN’s output on a wide range of popular and emerging social media platforms including but not limited to Reddit, Bluesky, Threads, Instagram and beyond.
We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.
What will the role involve?
Working in a wider team you will oversee all Manchester Evening News’ social media accounts on Reddit, Instagram, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky and LinkedIn. You may also be called on to help optimise content for platforms like MSN and Apple.
You will drive traffic to this social content, helping to establish the MEN’s presence on these newer platforms and deepening reader engagement. You will help to optimise this content, working closely with reporters and editors.
You will help to implement projects to grow our registered users, pitching ideas on how to broaden our audience. You will find new ways to promote content off-platform to engage new users. This role involves working shifts on a rota pattern including some evenings and weekends, so a flexible approach is required.
Who are we looking for?
You have proven demonstrable experience utilising all the social platforms you will be managing. You know how these platforms work and how to optimise content using their algorithms to your advantage. You ideally have an NCTJ qualification or relevant journalism degree, and you have a clear interest in news and a good sense for what makes a story perform well on social media.
You are passionate about audience engagement and are keen to learn about emerging platforms. You are an excellent multi-tasker who is keen to work in a fast-paced, varied role with the best journalists in the business. You want to learn how to utilise AI tools to improve the efficiency of how we distribute content to our readers.
