You will have either completed your A-levels (or equivalent) or a degree or have gained some planning experience whilst working in the public and / or private sector (consultancy or client-side).
Chapman Lily Planning is a Dorset based planning consultancy working across the South Coast. We continue to grow and are looking to appoint a Trainee Planner as a key addition to the team where you will be able to contribute to our future success.
The role of Trainee Planner will provide an excellent opportunity for you to start your career in Town Planning whilst undertaking an RTPI accredited course (which we would look to contribute towards or fund in full) and provide a stepping stone towards gaining membership of the RTPI. As your career progresses we will able to support you, as RTPI mentors, as you complete your Assessment of Professional Competence (APC).
Job Description – Trainee Planner
The principal duties of a Trainee Planner include:
* Actively contributing to and assisting with projects including individual pieces of work and completing them, under supervision, in a competent manner and standard that reflects the status of an assistant Planner.
* Assisting the Directors, Associate Directors and Senior Planners in taking forward project work including but not limited to:
o undertaking site visits,
o undertaking research,
o undertaking/assisting with the compilation of planning appraisals,
o assisting with the promotion of land and premises through Local Plans and Neighbourhood Plans.
* Analysing and responding to consultation documents.
* Submitting and monitoring planning applications and appeals.
* Contributing to the preparation, submission and monitoring of certificates of lawfulness.
* Assisting with the co-ordination of and participating in community engagement events.
* Maintaining company profile including but not limited to:
o representing the company at conferences and forums,
o contributing towards ongoing marketing activity such as compiling articles for Chapman Lily Planning’s website or assisting with seminars.
* Administration including but not limited to:
o recording time, income and expenses,
o electronic filing,
o answering the phones and handling initial enquiries.
* Such other duties as the company might from time to time reasonably require.
Annual salary will be circa £22k - £25k per annum on a pro rata basis. We also consider a contribution to tuition fees (for an accredited RTPI course) and a relocation allowance.
If employment is terminated within 2 years of receipt of any contribution made by Chapman Lily Planning Ltd towards University Fees or relocation allowance, the contributions are to be repaid in full.
Holiday entitlement is, pro-rata, 30 days per year inclusive of public holidays. The holiday year runs from April 1st – March 31st.
Working hours are 37.5 hours a week and would be reduced accordingly to allow for attendance at an accredited RTPI if required.
