With proven practical experience providing technical services within the live performance and/or events sectors, you will have a good working knowledge of lighting, sound, and/or video equipment and software, experience in designing in one or more technical discipline, and experience in the planning and assembly of stage and exhibition structures.
Providing specialist technical support to students and staff, you will also contribute to the planning and delivery of a wide variety of projects including theatrical productions, live events and exhibitions. Previous experience of working in an educational institution would be advantageous, while an understanding and appreciation of workplace health, safety and welfare, and the ability to work as a member of a team and independently using your own initiative are essential.
Key duties of this post include the delivery of technical and health and safety workshops and demonstrations to groups of students on new and existing equipment, resources, processes and techniques; undertaking the design of one or more technical disciplines on creative projects; and assembling and operating equipment to support live productions and events.
You will also be required to undertake first line maintenance of equipment and maintain inventories and asset lists; ensure processes are followed and documentation produced to maintain and manage health, safety and welfare; and provide effective and reactive technical support throughout the working day, often across the wider university community supporting collaborative activities and projects.
You will need to be flexible in your approach to the working day and environment as this varied post supports a diverse range of individuals and projects and will entail evening and weekend working. Regular travel and transportation of resources to various university sites and external venues and locations will be required, for which a full UK driving licence is necessary.
You must possess GCSE minimum grade C/4, or equivalent, in English and Maths, and a level 3 qualification in a relevant related subject. You will also have either a relevant degree qualification or significant professional experience in an appropriate field.
