The people of Aberdeen and shire generate a lot of wastewater – from their bathrooms, kitchens, sewers, and drains. Most of it ends up at a Wastewater Treatment plant, like our plant in Nigg. Our team there treats over 110,000m3 of liquid waste from the local area every day.
The treatment process is what makes this water safe to be recycled back into the local environment without causing damage to our rivers, shorelines, and their delicate aquatic ecosystems. It’s essential work to protect Aberdeenshire’s natural environment.
We’re looking for a SWS Process Operator to help monitor and maintain this essential processing equipment.
What you’ll do
You’ll be part of the Operations Team, responsible for the safe operation of our wastewater and sludge processing assets. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Planned and reactive monitoring and maintenance.
2. Diagnosing and repairing faults.
3. Completing all relevant recording and reporting.
4. Operating and adjusting processes in response to trend data, samples, and tests.
Wastewater treatment works are not glamorous. You’ll be routinely exposed to dirt, water, and unpleasant smells, dealing with controlled hazards like gas, chemicals, and raw sewage. You’ll need to be comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, or wearing breathing apparatus. This role can involve a lot of walking and moving heavy equipment.
The role is varied, involving physically demanding activities and analyzing SCADA trends to identify deficiencies and improvements to the process. The team at Nigg has a good sense of humor and takes great pride in their work, understanding the importance of their role in protecting the local environment.
What you’ll need
You’ll need a background in operational or maintenance activities in Water, Wastewater, or a similar processing environment. Key qualifications include:
1. Ability to diagnose and repair faults.
2. Quick learning skills, with the ability to use computer systems and understand data.
3. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record information.
4. Comfortable working independently and conducting routine checks and maintenance activities.
5. A full, clean UK issued driving licence.
Safety is paramount for you, your colleagues, and the public. You will champion safe working practices at all times.
Looking out for you
This is a full-time job with a shift rota covering both day and night shifts. Benefits include:
* 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays).
* Family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave.

* Access to SW Splash for savings on holidays, bills, and shopping.
