Job Description
SLR has a busy, well-established Land Quality team in its European Operations. The team undertakes a wide variety of geo-environmental assessments particularly across the built environment, industry, infrastructure and energy sectors. Due to ongoing commercial success and a busy forward order book, we are looking to support a year long placement for Geo-environmental students within our UK offices.
This position presents an outstanding opportunity to learn from a team of leading geoscience professionals (including geotechnical engineers, geologists and contaminated land specialists) within a truly multinational consultancy and offers the right applicant the chance to put learning into practice.
The Land Quality team undertakes a wide range of site assessment/investigation and associated reporting for a diverse range of clients and the successful applicant will be required to support project tasks, fieldwork and data manipulation and assist in preparing subsequent reports to provide advice to clients.
The role
If you are successful, you will provide assistance to the team in the following areas:
1. Aspects of geo-environmental fieldwork.
2. Desk-based assessments.
3. Organising site investigation/laboratory testing services in advance of field works.
4. Developing health and safety plans to cover identified work tasks.
5. Site Investigation management and supervision.
6. Logging soil and rock.
7. Arranging laboratory analysis of soil and rock samples.
8. Data collation, manipulation and assessment.
9. Reporting of investigations and assessments.
About you
If you are interested, we would love to hear from you. In order to succeed as well as studying a BSc Degree level qualification in an applied geological science and a full UK driving licence, we'd envisage that you would be able to demonstrate:
1. Good IT skills (MS Office or equivalent).
2. Good communication, report writing and data analysis skills.
3. The ability to work as part of a team and follow strict Health & Safety protocols.
4. A desire to build on academic knowledge.
5. Relevant professional software knowledge (e.g. modelling & logging software; AutoCAD and GIS software) an advantage.
