Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand our current service within General Surgery & Gastroenterology at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital. We are looking for a Band 5 nurse to join our team to support acutely unwell surgical patients. We specialise in surgical and orthopaedic care; therefore, some basic knowledge is recommended, however, not essential.
Main duties of the job
To provide clinical and professional skills and work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team. You will care for a variety of surgical and orthopaedic patients and will be expected to carry out nurse-led assessments of your patients and recognise a deteriorating patient. Acuity can change hourly, so it is important you can prioritise your workload effectively to keep yourself and the patients safe.
You will also be required to assist your patients getting ready for theatre if they are required to have surgery and care for them prior to their operation. You will be required to facilitate safe discharges and plan appropriate admissions to hospital.
Working for our organisation
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’. We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.
