Construction Manager (Site, Commercial and Pre-Construction)
Leap29 have a fantastic opportunity which is available, as Construction Manager for utility scale solar sites across the UK. The Construction Manager is likely to come from Commercial Manager, Contract Manager or Quantity Surveyor type background and will takeover from project development and oversee pre-construction activities.
Our client are a leading independent renewable energy company, who operate over 1 GW of assets in the 20 countries where they are present with excellent growth ambitions. The Construction Manager will oversee the delivery of large-scale renewable energy projects
Some of the essential qualities of the successful candidate will include:
• Construction Manager / Site Manager / Project Manager experience
• Commercial, Contracts or Quantity Surveyor experience
• Take projects from pre-construction stage and liaise with Project Development team
• Relationship with landowners
• Contracts - Familiar with EPC/O&M tendering (potentially multi-contracts) / Tender Documents and Offers / Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering contracts
• Procurement
• Lead the owners management during construction phase.
• Site management and Project Management
• Proven experience managing large-scale solar farm construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of UK construction practices, regulations, and standards, including CDM compliance.
• Excellent leadership, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Coordination
• Develop the Construction Phase Plan in collaboration with subcontractors, detailing schedules and milestones.
• Coordinate logistics with contractors and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
• Conduct pre-construction site assessments and manage site setup, including temporary facilities, access roads, and laydown areas.
Site Management
• Lead and manage on-site subcontractor teams, ensuring efficient workflows and timely completion.
• Oversee all construction activities, including:
• Groundworks, trenching, and structure installation.
• Module mounting and electrical works.
• Site reinstatement and final handover.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
• Collaborate with Engineering to develop the Risk Register during pre-construction and ensure a smooth handover to the construction phase.
• Act as Principal Contractor, ensuring full compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental regulations, including CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations.
• Implement and enforce health & safety plans, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS).
• Promote a strong safety culture, conducting regular toolbox talks, site inspections, and incident reporting.
Quality Assurance & Reporting
• Ensure all work is delivered to the highest standards and in line with Employer Requirements and industry best practices.
• Provide regular progress updates to the Project Manager, including cost tracking and risk assessments.
Resource Management
• Monitor project progress, identifying and addressing potential overruns.
• Optimize resource allocation across manpower, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency.
