Learning Support Assistant - Wantage
Primary school

Do you want to work in an "Ofsted" rated school environment with future development opportunities?
Many Primary schools are experiencing increased levels of their student body having SEN requirements, due to improved diagnoses for SEN and learning difficulties. This is no different for a Primary school in OX12.
Many of the children attending mainstream Primary schools qualify for a SEN provision; however, due to limited Government funding, there simply are not enough spaces. This is where you come into it!
The OX12 based Primary school NEEDS more Learning Support Assistants to join their team. You will need to be adaptive and understand the diverse SEN requirements in varying degrees. Some students can manage in a classroom setting with some additional support from yourself, while others may require 1:1 support and potential outside classroom interventions.
Your Daily Duties:
1. Collaborating with the KS1/KS2 class teacher and other experienced staff members to educate the OX12 pupils.
2. Manage challenging behaviours that may arise; training and techniques will be provided.
3. Provide 1:1 (one-to-one) teaching support, adapting tasks to the child's needs/interests to communicate the information effectively.
4. Identify potential triggers for the pupils regarding their trauma and mental health needs, and offer alternative focuses to help calm the KS1/KS2 students.
Experience:
Working with children (e.g., tutoring): 1 year (preferred)
Qualifications:
1. GCSE (must have Maths and English) - Minimum grade 4/C (required)
2. 2:1 degree (Psychology, Sociology, or Criminology preferred, not required)
