An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time ward clerk position in Cardiac Surgery based at the Leeds General Infirmary.
The post-holder will be required to work 37.5 hours each week.
The successful applicants will be required to deal with a variety of duties including answering the telephone, data inputting, checking and ordering ward stock, general clerical duties, and organising patient transport.
Applicants should possess good communication and organisational skills and be willing to work within a multi-disciplinary team. Previous clerical experience preferably within the NHS is desirable.

Main duties of the job
To undertake administrative duties at ward level including the accurate and timely recording of patient activity data on Trust systems. To undertake clerical and related duties on the ward and enable Sister/Charge Nurse and other ward staff to concentrate more freely on direct patient care. This will involve considerable liaison with other departments and wards on behalf of the ward staff.
The jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective care.

Job responsibilities
Principal Duties and Areas of Responsibility
Administrative and Clerical Duties:
1. Record admission, transfer and discharge activity data onto the Trust PAS system.
2. Arrange patients follow-up appointments using the PAS system and order transport for patients when required.
3. Record changes to the bed base and inform the relevant corporate team.
4. Handle telephone calls from relatives, hospital staff, public etc., under guidance where necessary from the Sister/Charge Nurse, and making calls where appropriate on behalf of ward staff.
5. Ensure that patients' medical records (including x-rays) are available on the ward, obtaining these where necessary from other departments.
6. Transfer pathology and other reports to patients' records, and general collation of records promptly and efficiently, especially on patients' discharge.
7. Deliver patients' mail.
8. Order stationery and complete requisition forms under instruction from Sister/Charge Nurse.
9. Complete electronic admission/bed system as required.
10. Maintain records on behalf of Sister/Charge Nurse.
Assisting to maintain high standards of care:
1. Assist in the welcome and reception of patients and visitors into the clinical area.
2. Maintain a safe working environment, reporting incidents, accidents, complaints.
3. Understand the need to maintain and respect patient confidentiality.
4. Participate in in-service training.
5. Participate in mandatory training annually.
6. Participate in annual performance appraisal.
7. Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands.
