Research Information Systems Manager
Reference: DEC20242956
Expiry date: 12:29, Sun, 19th Jan 2025
Location: Liverpool
Benefits: 30 days annual leave, plus UK bank holidays, plus up to 6 additional Christmas closure days
We are currently undergoing an exciting period of transformation as we reshape our research systems landscape at LSTM. We are undertaking a major change programme replacing our Current Research Information System (CRIS) with PURE and introducing a new costing and pricing tool (Blackdackel) and ethics submission system (Infonetica). We have a dedicated Working Group for the design, configuration and launch of the new CRIS.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong technical background in research information systems to play a pivotal role in implementing and managing systems that support LSTM's cutting-edge research. We are looking for someone passionate about research information systems and up for the challenge of championing CRIS to stakeholders.
LSTM is a research-intensive specialist institution. Having performed highly in REF 2021 (ranking 2nd overall for impact and 6th in clinical medicine) and the most recent KEF (scoring the highest possible rating in three categories), our CRIS and the underlying data will be essential to maintaining our strong position in the sector and yielding valuable management information.
As the coordinating system administrator, you will oversee the systems’ implementation, maintenance, and ongoing development. Your leadership will ensure that our Current Research Information System (CRIS) remains a vital resource, enabling efficient operations, smooth user experiences, and high-quality research data across academic and professional teams.
What will I be doing?
1. System Configuration and Maintenance:
2. Act as coordinating system administrator and ‘expert user’ across the three main systems making up CRIS, working closely with IT Services, system owners/superusers, and suppliers. Oversee system integrity, performance, and improvements, including upgrades and integrations with other platforms.
3. Deliver high-quality support to users and ensure efficient resolution of issues through helpdesk management.
4. System Development and Continuous Improvement:
5. Drive innovation and continuous improvements to CRIS processes and policies based on evolving best practices.
6. Manage system updates, consulting with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery and alignment with LSTM’s needs.
7. Reporting and Data Management:
8. Manage and enhance CRIS’s reporting module, collaborating with IT Services and Strategic Planning to ensure effective, self-service reporting.
9. Act as the data owner for CRIS, ensuring data quality, accuracy, and integration across systems.
10. Communication & Business Partnering:
11. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including IT Services, researchers, administrators, and suppliers.
12. Oversee the development of user guides, training materials, and conduct training to empower staff and ensure system integrity.
13. Serve as the primary liaison between LSTM and suppliers, managing contracts, updates, and issue resolutions.
14. Ensure that CRIS data complies with legal and regulatory standards, maintaining internal consistency for reliable output.
What do I need to demonstrate?
To excel in this role, you will need to have:
1. Extensive experience in managing research information systems such as Pure or Worktribe.
2. Experience of managing systems change (e.g. upgrades) and maintaining change control processes.
3. Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and lead system development projects.
4. A proactive approach to problem-solving, with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
