Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences (MCCN) is excited to be advertising a newly funded Band 7 Occupational Therapist post based at the Devonshire Intermediate Neuro rehab unit (INRU) in Stockport. This post will form part of the expansion of therapy staffing at this highly regarded INRU. The Devonshire INRU will join the wider Neurorehabilitation therapy services operated by MCCN which includes the Hyper acute and acute services at Salford Royal (C2 and L1) and the Floyd Unit INRU in Rochdale.
The Devonshire Unit is an independent Neurorehabilitation facility based in the vibrant and easily accessible town of Stockport, 8 miles from the City of Manchester and close to the Peak District. It is a 19 bedded unit for the care of post-acute patients requiring ongoing community-based in-patient rehabilitation. The unit has well established and effective links with the community teams working across all its localities.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Band 7 with significant experience in Neuro rehab to be part of this fantastic, expanding and developing service. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate their experience in Neuro and Neuro rehab and their commitment and enthusiasm in both people and service development.
Main duties of the job
* To lead on and provide, highly specialist, individualised, Occupational therapy interventions for all patients admitted with a Neurological condition.
* The role involves clinical, leadership and educational opportunities to develop outstanding evidence-based practice in the occupational therapy management of patients with complex neurological conditions.
* Excellent communication skills will be required to liaise effectively with treating clinicians, the patient, their family members, and community services and support networks throughout the patient pathway.
* To lead on the development of the team and wider Neurorehab services to ensure they meet the high standards of excellence being driven across in-patient Neurorehabilitation.
* To provide effective and supportive leadership and management to the Occupational Therapy and Therapy assistant team at the Devonshire Unit as required.

Qualifications
* HCPC Registered
* BSc/MSc Degree in Occupational Therapy
Skills
* Post graduate training relevant to neurorehabilitation to include cognitive assessment and rehabilitation
* Completion of basic Bobath course
* Experience in leading complex capacity assessments
* Active involvement in COT specialist interest group
Experience
* Substantial post registration NHS experience including working across Neuro and ortho specialities
* Proven NHS experience working with patients of neurological presentation at Band 6 level or above.
* Evidence of working in Neurorehabilitation in a community setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Evidence of wide clinical theoretical knowledge base and specialist knowledge in assessment and treatment of patients with complex neurological illness or injury, multiple pathologies, and progressive conditions
* Highly developed communication and leadership skills with evidence of post graduate training
* Experience of working as part of an MDT in acute and rehab settings
* Evidence of supervising and appraising other staff and students
* Evidence of leading service improvement/development initiatives
* Evidence of complex decision making processes including where capacity decisions may be required
