Job summary
The Welsh Government’s Transport and Digital Connectivity Directorate’s responsibilities have expanded with successive devolution settlements and responsibilities now extend to roads, rail operations, the bus industry, active travel (walking and cycling), ports and aviation. In parallel, we are an active player in non-devolved areas such as rail investment and digital infrastructure to ensure a ‘made in Wales’ approach. This new role is critical in supporting robust economic analysis, modelling, forecasting, and decision-making across these areas, while working with other economists across the Welsh Government on shared areas of interest such as the environment, planning, housing, and the Welsh Treasury.
Job description
The post-holder will lead on several aspects of work for the Directorate, including the provision of economic information and advice to assist policy development, delivery of the Wales Transport Strategy, and scheme appraisal and prioritisation, and the provision of specialist advice to teams across Welsh Government on funding, delivery, and evaluation of transport policies and schemes. The postholder will also play a significant role in guiding the work of Transport for Wales’ G-STAT (Geospatial and Strategic Transport Analysis) unit.
