This is considered a Full-time Permanent Position (35-40 hrs per week)
Job description
The medical receptionist will be responsible for providing clerical office assistance in a community doctor’s office setting.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Interacting with Patients
* Scheduling and confirming appointments
* Greet patients and visitors warmly, provide assistance with check-in/check-out, and ensure a positive experience.
* Validating patients' provincial health services cards
* Answer and route phone calls, respond to patient inquiries in a friendly manner
* Helping patients feel at ease
Maintaining Health Records
* Starting new medical files for new patients; maintaining and updating patient charts in the electronic medical record (EMR)
* Scanning all relevant notes and laboratory investigations into the EMR
* Ensuring the confidentiality of patients' medical files and records
* Communicating with other healthcare professionals as needed
Facilitating Office Communications
* Relaying messages between medical staff as necessary
* Answering phones
* Positive interpersonal skills
Coordinating Outside Services
* Faxing requisitions for laboratory tests, hospital admissions, and medical procedures
* Coordinating with patients their consultations for other doctors or specialists
* Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and staff.
Working Conditions:
* Community office.
* Shared space with other physicians, medical assistants, physician assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and sonographers.
* Free parking on site – personal vehicle preferred but not required. On a bus route.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* A post-secondary education/work in a field related to secretarial work or medical office setting
* A warm and professional demeanor towards patients and team members
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
* Team-oriented with the ability to work independently
* Strong problem-solving & time management abilities
* A commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality
* Prior experience as a receptionist, ideally in a healthcare or medical setting.
* Proficiency with medical software (EMR/EHR) and MS Office Suite;
* Ability to type at least 40 WPM
* Strong analytical skills
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
* An understanding of medical terminology and office procedures
* The ability to learn and use new computer software effectively
* Experience with OSCAR is considered an asset
* Ability to speak Arabic is considered an asset
