Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to join the Moubayidin Group at the John Innes Centre, working on cutting-edge science in the field of Cell & Developmental Biology.
About the Moubayidin Group:
The group aims to reveal the mechanisms at the cellular, molecular, and genetic level that determine the development and shape of the gynoecium, the female reproductive organ, which is essential for fertilisation and seed production.
The role:
The successful applicant will contribute to the lab's smooth operation and investigate the molecular and genetic mechanisms controlling symmetry during style development, using techniques in genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology. The role involves leading research projects on crops like brassica oleracea, rice, and tomato, as well as Arabidopsis. The candidate will also train and supervise students at various levels and contribute to research outputs. Collaboration, data interpretation, and excellent communication skills are essential.
The ideal candidate:
Applicants should have a BSc or equivalent in Biological Sciences or a related field. A PhD in Biochemistry, Plant Biology, or related disciplines is desirable. Proficiency in crop genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology techniques is essential. Experience in protein biochemistry and supervision of students or visiting workers is advantageous.
