We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our Legal Department, providing support to Chess’ Sales and Commercial divisions and collaborating with business leaders across the Chess Group. This role requires a business-minded solicitor who can facilitate sales while safeguarding Chess’ interests and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, reporting directly to the Head of Legal.
The Legal Department covers various practice areas, including commercial, corporate, litigation, and regulatory. We emphasise personal ownership of roles and foster a collaborative environment where team members learn from each other's experiences to support individual development.

The Role:
* Drafting, negotiating, and advising on bespoke, commercial contracts, particularly focusing on Enterprise and Public Sector sales activity.
* Offering ad-hoc advisory support on compliance with contract conclusion processes and governance throughout the contract lifecycle.
* Advising and negotiating supplier contracts.
* Drafting standard terms and conditions and contract templates and providing advice in relation to use of the same.
The Candidate:
* A minimum of 3 years’ experience in drafting and advising on commercial contracts.
* Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial contracts.
* In-depth knowledge of contractual law.
* Excellent attention to detail and the ability to find sound commercial solutions to legal and commercial issues.
* Articulate and persuasive communication skills.
* Commercial awareness and a strong understanding of strategic drivers that affect business decisions.
* Ability to work under own initiative as well as part of a team.
* Excellent time management and organisational skills.
* Highly motivated and proactive.
Desirable:
* Experience of supporting sales within a private and public procurement process.
* Experience and knowledge of OFCOM General Conditions.
* Experience and knowledge of Data Protection Law.
* Relevant industry experience or in-house experience.

Salary details: Up to £50,000 depending on experience.

Hours: A standard week is 37½ Monday to Friday.
