An exciting 12-18 month fixed term/secondment opportunity has arisen within the Central Manchester COPD team. This would suit a band 5 looking to develop their leadership skills and gain experience in a specialist role. The role will cover both the hospital and community setting and therefore a driving license and car are essential for the role, which covers a 7-day service including BH.
As a COPD Specialist Nurse with proven experience in Respiratory Medicine and caring for patients with COPD, you will provide expert professional assessment, advice, and health promotion in the management of care for patients with COPD, with the support of the wider team and the Clinical & Airways Service Leads. You will be expected to work collaboratively with patients, relatives, and other health care professionals to deliver a high-quality specialist service promoting health, preventing deterioration and hospital admission, or assisting in timely safe discharge for inpatients. Taking a lead on audit and quality improvement will be a key feature of the role and integral for assuring a quality service.

The post holder will exercise higher levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care demonstrated through the Trust competency framework. S/he will provide specialist expertise and advice demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to the identification, assessment, treatment, and management of the client group. S/he will monitor and improve standards of care through supervision of practice, clinical audit, evidence-based practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership. S/he will contribute to clinical governance within the service by undertaking audit and research as part of the MDT within the specialist field.
Post holders will be expected to participate fully in their personal development and review process to develop/maintain their knowledge and skills as identified in the British Thoracic Society (BTS) respiratory competency framework.
