Job Title: Support Worker
Responsible to: Directly accountable to and taking direction from the employer (Mum)
Hours: 6 hours per week
Hourly Rate of Pay: £11.50
Based at: Employer’s own home in Red Lodge, Suffolk and out in the local community.
Job Purpose
The purpose of the job is to support and be a friendly companion to a 7 year old boy with severe autism, severe food aversion and sensory processing disorder. The child lives at home with his family. The purpose is to build a trusting, professional relationship with the child and to support his with all his needs. The child loves outdoor activities, loves running and jumping and also likes a cuddle.
Main duties:
To support with:
- Personal care e.g. washing, dressing and changing nappies.
- Constant supervision is required at all times.
- Support with all safety aspects, the child has no awareness road safety / safety awareness.
- To be a social friendly companion to the child.
- To support with sensory play, music, cuddling, jumping etc.
- Support and attend days out to trampoline parks, swimming, for example.
- Very active little boy so needs to have support at all times.
- To build a supportive relationship and take part in activities which the child enjoys.
- Supervising the child at meal times.
- To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.
Personal Specification
• Flexible in the hours and times that you can work.
• Experience with caring for children is essential and experience with autism.
• Have a good sense of humour and enjoy a friendly joke.
• You should have a thorough understanding of personal safety.
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• You should have knowledge and understanding of risks.
• Be patient and supportive.
