The Job
Your responsibilities will include:
* Provide comprehensive antenatal care, including initial assessments, prenatal screenings, and health education to pregnant women in remote communities.
* Monitor maternal and foetal well-being during pregnancy, labour, and childbirth, assessing progress and managing any complications that arise in collaboration with medical teams.
* Assist with childbirth and provide emotional support, pain management, and comfort measures to labouring women, ensuring a positive birth experience in line with their birth preferences.
* Provide immediate postnatal care to mothers and newborns, including breastfeeding support, newborn assessments, and postpartum education on infant care and maternal health.
* Conduct home visits and follow-up appointments to provide continuity of care for mothers and babies in remote areas, promoting maternal-infant bonding and early childhood development.
* Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including obstetricians, paediatricians, and allied health professionals, to coordinate integrated care plans and referrals as needed.
* Participate in community outreach initiatives, childbirth education programs, and maternal health promotion activities to empower women and families with knowledge and skills for healthy pregnancies and childbirth experiences.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of midwifery assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes by professional standards and organisational policies.
The Profile
Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree or higher in Midwifery, with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
* Demonstrated experience working as a Midwife in maternity care settings, preferably in remote or rural areas.
* Strong clinical skills in antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, with the ability to manage normal and complex pregnancies and childbirths.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with women and their families.
* Cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of Indigenous populations and other diverse communities in remote areas.
* Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams in remote and resource-limited environments.
* Flexibility to adapt to the challenges and demands of remote area practice, including limited resources and geographical isolation.
* Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to remote communities as required.
