Weâll provide the transport or cost of transport to get you there and back each week and a nice place to stay when youâre there so you can focus on your studies. Here youâll start your Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering. Youâll then spend the next 3 years working at Glenlee Power Station learning from experienced Technicians, Shift Operators and Engineers By the end of the 4 years, youâll come out with an SVQ level 3 in Engineering Maintenance and a NC in Engineering.

We are one of the largest energy generators in the UK, with our Hydro sites in Scotland and main site in North Yorkshire covering 13 square miles. That means there are a lot of complex and interesting structures to work on, not to mention some of the new ones in the pipeline.

Together, we make it happen.

At Drax, weâre committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their role. To make this a reality, we actively work to better represent the communities we operate in, foster inclusion, and establish fair processes. Through these actions, we build the trust needed for all colleagues at Drax to contribute their perspectives and talents, no matter their background. Thereâs no such thing as a typical day as an Apprentice as itâll vary depending on what year youâre in, and what team youâre working with. But, to give you a bit of an idea you can expect to provide maintenance on Drax mechanical, electrical or control and instrumentation bits of our plant. Then next you might be learning to read and interpret technical drawings to make sure youâre fixing the right bit of kit.

Ultimately, youâll be learning to be responsible and accountable for the plant, and its equipment and systems. But thatâs not all, youâll also be learning to solve problems safely, logically, quickly, and confidently. Further training and development is a key part of your career journey at Drax as well, and this comes in many forms such as on the job training, working at different sites, or further qualifications.

Youâll be joining a large team of experienced production, operational and engineering colleagues. There will also be opportunities for short secondments to other power stations within the Drax group.  Youâll need (or be predicted to achieve) a minimum National 5 grades C and above in English, Maths, a Technical subject and a Science subject. (Youâll need to prove these before you start so make sure you keep your certificates handy).

As well as getting the right grades, weâll also be looking for candidates with good communication skills who can work as part of a team.
