Join us as an Apprentice Project Engineer, within Highways where you will achieve a Level 6 Civil Engineering Degree paid for by us, whilst also gaining on the job experience.
This a full time, fixed term position working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday with our flexible working scheme on a five-year contract. You'll be given the chance to dedicate time per week to off the job learning which will help you achieve your qualification.
What you'll be doing
You'll have the opportunity to work with our friendly experienced team who will support and mentor you throughout your apprenticeship, showing you how a range of projects are run. You'll have the tools and guidance to work on highways and civil engineering projects, surveying activities, procurement exercises and stakeholder engagement.
Day to day work could include preparing and setting out works for construction, assisting with planning for highway infrastructure assets, designing highway and transport improvement projects.

You'll be expected to attend university to complete the Civil Engineering course, which will be funded through the apprenticeship levy. You'll be expected to attend the university one day a week, which is included in your standard weekly hours. You'll be expected to take exams and submit projects in accordance with the course programme.
What you'll need
This post needs no prior experience or knowledge, so you'll just need to have a keen interest in project engineering with an aptitude for learning. You'll be confident in using complex systems, technical specifications and you'll be able to communicate well with people at all levels, inside and outside of the team.
Candidates will typically have at least 5 GCSEs at grades A* (9) to C (4) including maths and English and 2 'A' Level passes including maths and physical science OR level 3 apprenticeship as Civil Engineering Technician or equivalent. We will not be able to consider applications from candidates who already have a degree/masters or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
