Junior Enterprise Architect
Hybrid, 1-2 days per week Chiswick, West London
About the role
Due to a huge period of growth within BSI underpinned by a large scale, business wide technology transformation, we are excited to be looking for a Junior Enterprise Architect.
Reporting to the Enterprise Applications Architect, the role supports the Enterprise Architecture function within the IT directorate’s Strategy, Date and Architecture Team.
The role helps shape the application architecture landscape at BSI and includes elements of application portfolio management, architectural artefact production, data analysis, stakeholder communications and more.

Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for maintaining and promoting enterprise architecture policies, standards, guidelines, and templates.
2. Day-to-day management and continual improvement of our architecture repository, promoting adoption and reuse by demonstrating the value of the assets it contains; building and modifying assets as needed.
3. Monitoring the external environment to gather intelligence on emerging technologies, products, services, methods, and techniques (especially relating to AI and sustainability).
4. Contributes to reports and technology roadmaps that articulate the direction of BSI.
5. Contributes to the assessment and testing of new products/services which are of interest to BSI.
6. Maintaining databases relevant to our technology landscape.
7. Builds knowledge of organisation objectives, issues, and opportunities, and considers how IT should be embedded to support, address, and exploit them. Seeks and gains stakeholder involvement and support into the strategic planning process with the wider EA team.
8. Supports the development of an application strategy, building on understanding of business needs, the existing IT capabilities, and an understanding of future requirements, marrying all relevant organisation objectives with achievable IT goals.
9. Contributes to the creation of IT and business strategies, specifying requirements, highlighting best practice, and conducting options appraisals to identify the business costs/benefits/risks of delivery strategies.
10. Reviews new applications and services, identifying budgetary, legislative, regulatory, policy, technical and staffing constraints, costs and expected benefits. Plans include identification and assessment of business risks, working closely with the business relationship management function and sponsors across business divisions. Escalates non-compliant applications.
11. Communicating and promoting the enterprise architecture function and architectural artefacts internally, ensuring the available content meets stakeholder needs where possible and demand for new artefacts is managed on backlog. Building comms plans and feedback mechanisms to ensure this is successful.
12. Provides, or redirects to, expert advice, both reactively and pro-actively, to those engaged in activities where enterprise architecture is applicable within IT.
To be successful in the role, you will have:
13. Strategic Planning – experience of creating plans for a specific functional area that aligns to organisational objectives.
14. Information Systems Coordination & Information Management – experience supporting systems of record and maintaining accurate records.
15. Enterprise Architecture – aligning an organisation's technology strategy with its business mission, strategy, and processes and documenting this using architectural models.
16. Innovation & Emerging Technology Monitoring – experience identifying and assessing new and emerging technologies, products, or services and bringing them into an organisation.
17. Demand Management – analysing and proactively managing business demand for new services or modifications to existing service features or volumes.
18. Consultancy & Specialist Advice – Providing authoritative advice and recommendations, based on expertise and experience, to address client needs, from an enterprise architecture perspective.
19. Application Portfolio Management – experience using a framework to identify and manage the lifecycle of applications.
20. Content Authoring & Knowledge Management – planning, designing, and managing essential information to create textual and graphical content that generates value.
21. Asset / Service Catalogue Management – providing a source of consistent information about available application services and products to users.
22. Stakeholder Relationship Management – influencing stakeholder attitudes, decisions, and actions for mutual benefit.
23. Experience of solution architecture and using an enterprise architecture modelling tool is desirable.
24. Any experience in governance, business process improvement, application support (or other technical) background and supplier management is also ideal.
