Job Description
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Business Analyst for an initial 9 month contract on a rate of £456/day (Outside IR35). This role will be a hybrid of working at home and in the office.
Responsibilities:
1. Produce clearly defined Product Backlog Items and user stories which have detailed descriptions and testable acceptance criteria.
2. Document business rules and ensure that these are captured as part of the acceptance criteria.
3. Produce models to support the customers’ understanding of how the service will work.
4. Manage and maintain the product backlog to aid effective project delivery.
5. Deliver effective workshops to support the project.
6. Prepare and deliver ‘Show and Tells’ to project stakeholders.
7. Deliver robust services by working with business, developers, and testers to triage bugs.
8. Keep Product Owner and other stakeholders informed about project progress.
9. Highlight project risks and issues to the Project Manager.
Essential Skills:
1. Excellent communication skills, including experience of translating complex information through the facilitation of workshops, interviews, or reports.
2. Extensive stakeholder management and facilitation skills to articulate business requirements and translate these into project deliverables.
3. Advanced Visio and PowerPoint skills, and similar visual tools to aid requirements gathering.
4. Functional and non-functional skills requirements definition.
5. Experience of working with developers to refine backlog items to provide estimates of the work.
6. Experience of working with developers to identify impact of requirements on the service, both positive and negative, and ensure these are documented.
7. Good problem solving, facilitation and influencing skills to reach consensus on the issue and potential options for a way forward.
Desirable Skills:
1. Experience of testing:
1. Writing Test Plans from Product Backlog Items ensuring that acceptance criteria are captured as part of the test plan.
2. Methodical approach to testing using test plans and raising defects.
3. Facilitating user acceptance testing and support business users in the execution of user acceptance testing.
2. Experience of UI/UX:
1. Carrying out user research, user design and the development of mock ups in support of system development.
2. Experience with using one or more of the following techniques: Use Cases, User Stories, Wire Framing and Storyboards.
