St Peter's is a renowned successful school and sixth form in Guildford. We have an exciting opportunity to appoint enthusiastic and reliable individuals to increase our team of Exam Invigilators, supervising students taking exams. To start as soon as possible. Surrey Pay Scale PS1/2 (£12.03) £13.83 per hour (inc 15% holiday Pay). Hours: Casual as and when required.
About St Peter’s:
St Peter’s Catholic School, part of the Xavier Catholic Education Trust, is an extremely successful school and sixth form set in attractive grounds on the outskirts of Guildford, with onsite parking. Standards are high and academic progress excellent, with very good facilities and resources. Community is a key aspect of our ethos; relationships between students and staff are excellent.
About the role:
We are recruiting to increase our team of Exam Invigilators to supervise students taking external and internal exams. Exams run in December, January and April with the main external exam season running from May to July. Morning sessions start at 8.30am, generally finishing around 11.30am; afternoon sessions start at 12.30pm, usually finishing by 3.10pm. Exact dates would be confirmed well in advance, with the possibility of additional sessions being offered later as unexpected situations arise.
As well as ensuring exam board regulations are adhered to throughout the exam process and that the examinations run smoothly, Exam Invigilators will also assist with setting up the exams hall, distributing and collecting exam papers, and ensuring students are seated according to seating plans.
Although most of our students will sit exams in our dedicated exams hall, our Exams Invigilators may also need to give additional support to those students sitting exams individually by becoming a reader and/or scribe.
What we can offer you:
• A friendly, supportive environment where best practice is shared to ensure high quality invigilating.
• No previous experience is required; new invigilators will be fully trained, mostly by shadowing experienced invigilators during our mock weeks.
About You:
Successful candidates will be good communicators, educated to at least GCSE level in English and Maths. You will be a reliable, punctual individual who will be empathetic towards our students. You must be able to follow instructions, have clear spoken and written English, and be able to stand/walk about for up to 3 hours. Often unexpected situations arise during exams, so a flexible approach, thinking about what needs doing and being able to switch priorities, is important. A committed approach to your allocated dates is vital.
You must be willing to undergo the necessary training to become a reader and/or scribe on a one-to-one basis, and for this, good spoken English is a necessity. This training will make the role more varied as well as increase the number of hours we are able to offer you over each season.
Invigilators are paid for the number of invigilation hours worked, and we ask that you are available for a minimum of five sessions a week during exam times.
