The Food, Health, and Safety Compliance Manager ’s main focus is to conduct internal audits and drive improvements based on audit findings, ensuring compliance with food safety, health, and safety regulations. A key responsibility of the role is to counterbalance the Shift Operations Manager to ensure compliance, safety, and the achievement of customer expectations across the site. This role r will report directly to the Head of Technical and collaborate closely with quality control, production teams, and the HR department to implement improvements based on audit results, driving continuous improvement across all departments. Main duties: Counterbalancing the Shift Operations Manager Act as a key point of oversight to ensure that operational activities led by the Shift Operations Manager meet all regulatory and customer-specific compliance standards, with a focus on food safety, health, and safety requirements. Provide guidance and input on operational decisions to ensure they align with site-wide compliance protocols and customer expectations. Regularly review operations, identifying potential risks to compliance or safety, and work with the Shift Operations Manager to implement corrective actions swiftly. Collaborate with the Shift Operations Manager to balance operational efficiency with strict adherence to compliance and safety standards, ensuring smooth production while meeting audit and regulatory expectations. Monitor site performance against customer expectations, ensuring that any gaps in quality, safety, or compliance are addressed proactively. Facilitate communication between operations, quality control, and technical teams to drive continuous improvements and maintain a compliant and safe work environment across the site. Internal Auditing Determine through risk assessment the internal auditing programe for standards and codes of practices that govern the business to meet legal responsibility and customer expectations for Legality, Food safety, Quality, Integrity, Health and Safety Work Act and Ethical Trading Initatives Exec reporting for SLT on Audit Performance: Develop Exec reporting, highlighting areas for focus of non-compliance and making clear, actionable recommendations for improvement Pre-Audit Framework: Define framework for the business for external audits (e.g., by regulatory bodies, third-party certifications). Continuous Improvement Process Review and Optimization: Support the Technical Manager and Health and Safety Manager to analyse production processes from a safety and compliance perspective to identify inefficiencies, risks, and potential improvements Implementation of Best Practices: Support the Technical Manager and Health and Safety Manager to benchmark internal practices against industry best practices, identifying opportunities to implement more effective or efficient processes that enhance compliance Trend Analysis: Define monitoring systems for review of audit findings, incidents, and near-misses to identify trends, repeats and areas for proactive improvement. Agree with Technical Manager and Health and Safety Manager strategic action plans based on this data Monitoring Compliance Ongoing Compliance Checks: Define and implement routine spot-checks and inspections across various stages and all shifts for all process to ensure compliance with FSA, HSE, and company standards KPI Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to food safety, workplace accidents, and compliance issues. Use these metrics to track progress on improvement initiatives Risk Management an incident investigation Incident Auditing: Conduct thorough internal audits following incidents, accidents, or near-misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective measures to prevent future occurrences Risk Reduction Strategies: Collaborate with department heads and teams to implement preventative measures and risk reduction strategies identified through audits or incident investigations Health and Safety Risk Assessments: Support department heads to review and update risk assessments at required frequency, ensuring that any new equipment, processes, or operations are properly assessed for risks Staff training and development Who we are looking for: Qualifications Audit-Specific Training: Certification in internal auditing (e.g., ISO 22000, lead auditor, BRC Global Standards) or similar credentials focused on food safety and health & safety audits. Food Safety Qualifications: HACCP Level 3 (or above) Level 3 (or above) Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate. Health & Safety Qualifications: NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent auditing-related qualification Skills and experience Experience in Internal Audits: Proven experience in conducting internal audits in a food production environment, with a focus on corrective actions and continuous improvement Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyse audit data and trends to identify areas of improvement. Problem-solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues and recommend practical solutions to compliance challenges. Attention to Detail: Thorough in auditing processes, identifying non-conformances, and ensuring corrective actions are completed Leadership and Communication: Skilled in communicating audit findings and driving action through collaboration with other departments.
