As a Health & Safety Apprentice, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental standards at DCS Group are maintained and improved. You will receive on-the-job training while working closely with experienced professionals in the field. You will be responsible for supporting the Health & Safety Manager in conducting safety inspections, managing risk assessments, and helping to ensure the business complies with health and safety regulations.
This apprenticeship will allow you to gain practical skills and industry-recognised qualifications in health & safety, while contributing to the success of the team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Inspections:
2. Assist in conducting safety inspections, including fire safety and first aid checks.
3. Fire Drills:
4. Support the coordination of fire drills and fire alarm testing, ensuring records are properly maintained.
5. Risk Assessments:
6. Help manage and update risk assessments for all work activities and ensure employees are aware of their responsibilities.
7. Audits:
8. Assist in conducting regular audits of fire and first aid procedures to ensure compliance.
9. Systems of Work:
10. Maintain and update safe systems of work, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
11. Policy Adherence:
12. Support the enforcement of health & safety policies, ensuring they are communicated and adhered to across the business.
13. PPE Management:
14. Help maintain stock levels of PPE and staff uniforms, ordering replacements when required.
15. Data Management:
16. Enter data into the T100 system, keeping health & safety statistics up to date.
17. Training Support:
18. Assist in ensuring that documentation for training courses is available and help coordinate training sessions when needed.
19. Health & Safety Committee:
20. Produce minutes for Health & Safety committee meetings and distribute to the team.
21. Reporting:
22. Monitor near-miss reports, produce statistics, and help identify trends to improve safety practices.
23. Environmental Strategy:
24. Support the business’s environmental strategy with a focus on helping to achieve ISO 14001 accreditation.
Qualifications:
25. Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C), including English and Maths.
26. Willingness to undertake a relevant qualification in Health & Safety as part of the apprenticeship.
27. Interest in health, safety, and environmental regulations.
28. Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
29. Good computer skills, particularly in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
