Benoy’s London Studio is seeking a creative and collaborative team player to join our Masterplanning team as an Assistant Urban Designer. The Assistant Urban Designer’s role is to efficiently and effectively carry out tasks set by the Urban Designers and Senior Urban Designers in the team. This will include research and analysis work, masterplan optioning, devising strategies and solutions to briefs, and contributing to the production of masterplans, architectural schemes and public realm projects with various tools including sketching, diagramming, 3D modelling and physical modelling. What we are looking for A Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Urban Design or equivalent. Other relevant disciplines (e.g. planning, geography, property development & planning, etc) will only be considered if there is sufficient evidence of relevant work and experience in the candidate’s portfolio. Deep interest and curiosity in the process of designing and planning of the urban environments. Excellent design portfolio, and an avid interest in pursuing Urban Design and Masterplanning as a career path. Proficiency with computer applications is essential (including, but not limited to AutoCAD, Sketchup, any GIS software, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office). Additional spatial, parametric and visualisation tools (CityEngine, Infraworks, Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Ladybug) are of great benefit. Key Responsibilities Project Delivery and Skillset Generates excellent design sketches, diagrams, plans, models and renderings for reports and presentations. Has a good graduate level of knowledge around the subjects of urban design and planning, and an awareness of current discourse around the future of cities and sustainability. Delivers high quality work with guidance from Urban Designers and Senior Urban Designers, demonstrating excellent design skills. Has an awareness and willingness to learn more about spatial and environmental analysis, big data and movement analysis, and an appreciation of planning policy, cultural contexts, and heritage. Team Membership Demonstrating a positive attitude towards work and team activities, and a willingness to develop positive relations with team members and provide assistance as and when needed. An ability to manage time, workload and ability to work within deadlines and under pressure, while remaining calm and professional at all times. Contributing to the practice’s innovation, research and development initiatives and have an avid interest in the future of cities, masterplanning and sustainability.
