Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to join a large, friendly and proactive Palliative Medicine Department at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton. You will join 10 consultants based between Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital Burton, who also provide services at the associated community Hospitals. The Specialist Palliative Care team at UHDB provides support to patients and families in a variety of settings. It comprises the 20-bed specialist palliative care in-patient unit, Nightingale Macmillan Unit (NMU); Ward 2, a 14-bed general palliative care ward providing end of life care at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital in Derby; Hospital Palliative Care Team covering Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital, Burton; Community Palliative Care Team and an End of Life Care Facilitator Team The successful candidate will be based at Royal Derby Hospital with the Hospital Palliative Care Team. The medical team works flexibly and the candidate will have the opportunity to work in the other areas of the service to ensure a broad experience and career development. The successful candidate will be encouraged to contribute to the education programme and quality improvement activities. They will take part in a 1 in 10 on call rota. This is a part time post, 6.25PA Interview date: 5th February 2025 Informal enquiries will be welcome:Palliative Medicine Secretaries 01332 788794;Claudia.Whalenhs.net ; Maelie.Swanwicknhs.net Main duties of the job o Along with the Hospital Palliative Care Team, engage with the emergency Department and Acute Medicine colleagues to provide timely review of Palliative patients to arrange the best place of on-going care. o Work with the wider Palliative Medicine team and Oncologists to support in-patients in the oncology department with symptom control, decision making for treatments and onward planning for discharge. o At specified times, being a point of contact for calls to the department for advice and referral, with awareness of bed states to ensure patients are cared for in the most appropriate place. o To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit. o To undertake continuing professional development (CPD) and comply with requirements for appraisal and revalidation. o To work to achieve personal, departmental and Trust objectives. o The post-holder will take part in the out of hours consultant on call rota. o Contribute to leadership, management and service development of the wider Palliative Medicine department.
