South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is working with MACANI, a respected Abu Dhabi-based organization with a mission to develop and extend high-quality mental health care across the United Arab Emirates.
Maudsley Health is developing a specialist Maternal Mental Health service across the Middle East and is keen to recruit additional highly trained and skilled clinical staff. If you have training and experience in Maternal or Perinatal Mental Health Services, use an evidence-based approach, and can be adaptable and open in your approach, we would be delighted to have an initial conversation with you.
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist psychological services in clinical psychology and maternal mental health, which encompasses:
1. Specialist assessment, including diagnosis and formulation of psychological difficulties.
2. Treatment planning, management, and monitoring of treatment response and outcomes.
3. Consideration of the perinatal frame of mind.
4. The impact of maternal mental illness on the mother, the infant, and the mother-infant relationship.
5. The needs of the wider family while treating underlying mental health difficulties.
To work autonomously within the Maternal Mental Health Service provided by Maudsley Health (MH) in accordance with the Abu Dhabi Department of Health guidelines and codes of conduct and MH Maternal Mental Health Service policies and procedures.
To contribute to enabling other staff, service users, and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by creating a psychologically safe environment.

As the service is developing, flexibility and creativity will be required, along with an appreciation of relevant cultural considerations. The ability to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care with compassion is of utmost importance. The ability to speak Arabic is an advantage but is not essential.
Job responsibilities
Clinical and Client Care:
1. Undertake specialist maternal mental health assessments for women with various mental health difficulties who are trying to conceive, are pregnant, or in the first 2 years after having a baby.
2. Complete specialist assessments of the needs of the entire family, including individual work with dads, siblings, or couples work with parents.
3. Develop individualized collaborative formulations and provide evidence-based interventions for patients presenting with maternal mental health difficulties.
4. Provide culturally appropriate psychological interventions for patients/clients, their carers, and/or families when required.
5. Communicate skilfully and sensitively with patients and their families, considering any communication barriers.
6. Assess any clinical risk and develop appropriate risk management and escalation plans.
7. Manage safeguarding concerns and develop appropriate management and escalation plans.
8. Produce detailed clinical reports when appropriate.
Responsibilities for Service Clinical Functioning:
1. Support the development of culturally competent and accessible services.
2. Liaise with referrers and other professionals to ensure care plans are regularly reviewed and updated.
3. Utilize theory, evidence-based literature, and research on maternal mental health to support evidence-based practice.
4. Provide services at acceptable times and in a manner to patients.
Policy and Service Development:
1. Follow organizational policies and procedures relevant to the current role.
2. Propose changes to practices that may enhance services.
3. Initiate and implement service development projects, as agreed with line and service management.
4. Participate in ongoing implementation projects as requested.
Care or Management of Resources:
1. Take care of and use the services' equipment and physical resources carefully.
2. Ensure sufficient resources by estimating future needs and requesting supplies timely.
Teaching and Training:
1. Undertake occasional teaching and training of pre- and post-qualification psychologists.
2. Contribute to the development of the knowledge and skills base within the team.
3. Disseminate research and service evaluation findings through presentations and published articles.
Record-Keeping and Information Governance:
1. Ensure information produced is appropriately recorded as required by service policies.
2. Maintain high standards of clinical record keeping and report writing.
Research and Development:
1. Initiate and conduct appropriate research as agreed with the supervisor.
2. Use outcome measurement and other standardized assessments to facilitate service evaluation.
3. Receive regular clinical and professional supervision from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
General:
1. Travel to meetings, home visits, and training venues as appropriate.
2. Be aware of potential risks to self and others within the service.
3. Respond appropriately to emotionally distressing situations.
4. Work flexibly, including a commitment to late clinics and weekend work.
5. Demonstrate good time management and organization skills.
