CalMac is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a passionate and forward-thinking Operational Technology Manager! We are seeking a dynamic leader to spearhead the establishment of a cutting-edge capability in our fleet, as we integrate new vessels equipped with advanced Operational Technology (OT) systems (IT systems fitting to vessel engineering equipment).
In this pivotal role, reporting directly to the Technical Maintenance Manager, you will oversee the management and implementation of diverse Operational Technology and Cyber Security measures specifically for vessel maintenance and operations. Your impact will be significant as you lead the charge in leveraging state-of-the-art technology to enhance the analysis of material conditions and operational profiles of our fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead Innovation: Develop and implement strategies to fully exploit Operational Technology for vessel engineering equipment, including utilising the latest Operational Technology to support the analysis of material condition and operational profile of vessels.
* Cyber Security Champion: Serve as the primary point of contact for all Cyber Security matters related to Operational Technology, working closely with our IT Department to safeguard our systems.
* Enhance Operational Excellence: Utilise the latest OT tools and techniques to optimize the performance and reliability of our vessels.
What is Operational Technology? Operational Technology comprises cutting-edge technology used in cyber-physical systems to manage and monitor physical processes. On our vessels, this includes systems for plant machinery, RF communications, onboard sensors, navigation systems, and more. Role Overview
Reporting to the Technical Maintenance Manager this role will be responsible for the oversight, management and delivery of the various elements of Operational Technology exploitation and Cyber Security (limited to vessel maintenance and operations).
The role will focus on utilising the latest Operational Technology to support the analysis of material condition and operational profile of vessels in the fleet fitted with Operational Technology and act as the focal point and responsible manager for Cyber Security of Operational Technology in close cooperation with the IT Department.
Note: Operational Technology (OT) is defined as: The technology commonly found in cyber-physical systems that is used to manage physical processes and actuation through the direct sensing, monitoring and or control of physical devices, for example, motors, valves, pumps, etc. In a vessel these systems include: plant and machinery, RF communications, on and off board sensors and navigation systems.
Principal accountabilities
Management of department processes should be in line with company expectations and ensuring consultation is completed with relevant process reviewers when adding, amending, deleting, and reviewing owned processes.
People Management
* As a senior manager, demonstrates the leadership behaviours outlined in the Behavioural Framework, leading by example at all times, and challenging behaviours that are not in line with company values.
* Responsible for management of Operational Technology team staff, including but not limited to Staff appraisals, setting objectives, personal development plans, regular 1-2-1s, team development and regular team meetings.
* Set up effective two-way communications with all direct reports.
* Lead and motivate staff to provide a working environment that encourages staff to perform to or above their expected standards.
* Set clear expectations and objectives for the team and undertake constructive and purposeful appraisals, developing staff to reach their full potential.
* Accountable for managing all subordinate employee relations (including disciplinary and grievance) when appropriate.
Operational Technology Cyber Security Management
* Operational Technology (OT) asset inventory management and network / infrastructure mapping and documentation, recording of all assets and vulnerabilities that have OT Cyber Security Risk and therefore require management. Risk Identification and Management (including development and publication of OT Policy).
* OT assessment of new build and current vessels, generation of vessel Cyber Security Assessments and publication of vessel specific procedures.
* Development and supervision of Access Control procedures, user authentication and associated OT Cyber Security control procedures. Password and Encryption management for all OT assets. Data security for CFL operational data being communicated externally through remote access or onboard systems.
* Close liaison with IT to ensure onboard and shore side IT systems are managed in line with OT Cyber Security principles. Network management and control associated with OT for current and new build vessels. OT Malware and Security protection management (in consultation with IT) to ensure network security is maintained. Backup and Recovery management, ensuring all systems can be recovered in the event of an incident.
* Change Control, management of any changes (including patch and system updates) that have OT Cyber Security Implications. Upgrade and new device Malware and Security protection management including hardening to ensure new devices do not introduce vulnerabilities.
* Training of all staff who have roles and responsibilities associated with management and assurance of OT security. Conducting and analysing exercises in OT Cyber Incident management.
* Detection of OT Cyber Security breaches and minimisation of impact - Management of OT Cyber Security incidents. Central control and management of event logs and reports. Post incident investigations to make improvements and reduce risk of re-occurrence.
* Supply chain management in conjunction with Supplier Requirements Team and Supplier Management team to ensure any supplier that interfaces with CFL OT systems is accredited and follows CFL policy and procedures.
* Auditing of policy, processes and procedures in use across the fleet in conjunction with ISM code requirements.
Operational Technology General Management
* Manage access to data from on board OT systems to ensure that information is controlled and distributed internally to support condition assessment and maintenance management.
* Supply chain management to ensure contracts are in place and data is available to CFL for beneficial use.
* Supporting the Condition Assessment team and maintenance management teams, establish data streams and support decision making around changes to maintenance based on live data from vessel OT. Ensuring that all issues and concerns highlighted are scoped for inclusion into the maintenance plan.
* Support the production and management of Operational Technology budgets for vessels’ investigation and analysis, and control internal and external costs in line with the agreed OT budget. Ensure that benefit is maximised from OT spend or highlighted as of minimal or negative benefit should that be the case.
* Management of OT dashboards and cloud based access solutions.
* Implement OT capability on current and new vessels to maximise benefit and efficiency.
* Work with other teams in the department to best visualise OT data for identification and prioritisation of issues and risks highlighted.
Stakeholder Management
* Liaison with relevant Chief Engineers, Performance Assurance Team, IT Department and Fleet Management Department to maximise opportunity for Operational Technology and ensure issues and risks are highlighted and being resolved or mitigated appropriately.
* In conjunction with the Procurement Department, lead with the management of any OT contracts.
* Main point of contact in the department for Operational Technology and monitoring, act as Subject Matter Expert providing advice, guidance and direction on all matters of Operational Technology.
* Participation and chairing in specified meetings as directed by Technical Maintenance Manager.
* Work collaboratively with the Condition Assessment Team and the Fleet Management Department via dedicated meetings between the Operational Technology team and Technical Superintendents (TS), frequency to be determined through process, in order to hand over OT output and track progression and completion of actions. This will ensure quality of service to ferry users, and maximising fleet performance, resilience and reliability by optimising OT regimes.

* To support Continual Improvement processes and improve the processes and procedures for Operational Technology cyber security and management, ensuring lessons are identified and learned post every event and shared and aligned with wider stakeholders.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Essential
* Experience within maritime or similar industry, capable of exercising sound judgement in both proactive and reactive condition analytic techniques.
* Proficient in Operational Technology or Cyber Security management. Marine Operational Technology or experience that includes security for Industrial Automation and Control Systems desirable but any relevant cyber security discipline will be considered.
* Proficient in data analysis applications and security risk assessment and management.
* Be able to demonstrate experience of Project Management & Implementation and an awareness of change management. Showing experience in planning, resource management and reporting.
* Be able to demonstrate strong budget management experience with the ability to employ cost control techniques.
* Proven experience in all aspects of Microsoft Office applications.
* Ability to deal with staff and build relationships at all levels both internally and externally.
* Proven verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong document, data and process management skills.
* Ability to collate and report effective management information.
Desirable
* Hold a suitable Operational Technology, Industrial Automation and Control Systems Cyber Security qualification or similar.
* Experience in commercial ship operations and management.
