Fluid Mechanics Engineer
We are exclusively partnering with an emerging technology developer based in Ely on their latest recruitment drive which will see the company double in size. A startup, in R&D stage, financially backed by a wider global organisation, that innovates and creates exceptional products, technologies and services that will improve the lives of people while collaborating with some of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities. Within walking distance of Ely train station this role is accessible from both London and Cambridge within 1 hour. The successful candidate will be at the centre of a high-performance R&D Team that operates under the core SCRUM principles.
Location: Ely, Cambridgeshire
Hours: 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday (option to work from home on Wednesdays)
Hourly Rate / Salary: Circa £45,000

What our client is looking for:
1. A first or postgraduate Degree in Engineering – preferably Aeronautical or Mechanical
2. 5+ years of full life cycle experience in R&D of Commercial Products and Technologies
3. Experience as a SCRUM team member is an advantage
4. Proven experience of writing reports, giving presentations & interacting with customers
5. Ability to communicate complex technical information to stakeholders at all levels
6. Experience of working as part of a small multi-disciplinary team
7. Ability to manage time critical projects to agreed plans and specifications
8. Ability to conceptualise and understand the commercial imperative for the project
9. Confidence to follow internal product design, specification and certification processes
What your day may look like:
1. Design and analyze fluid systems, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems
2. Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed schematics & simulations
3. Conduct research and develop new models for understanding fluid behaviour
4. Perform complex calculations to predict the behaviour of fluids under different conditions
5. Collaborate with other engineers and scientists to develop and test new fluid systems and equipment
6. Prepare detailed reports and documentation on research findings and project results
7. Plan & manage the smooth functioning of flow facilities of all R&D projects
8. Create plans, allocate resource and facilitate the operation of the flow facilities
9. Ensure the operation, maintenance and safety of the loop at the highest standard
10. Review and evaluate the operational efficiency and safety of the flow loop and other testing facilities so that experimental campaigns are targeted, timely and cost effective.
11. Supervise and undertake routine equipment inspections
12. Coordinate instrument calibration, troubleshooting and repairs
13. Provide PFDs/P&IDs and procedure updates such as loop sketches, logic circuits, calibration and test records in collaboration with R&D engineers and scientists
14. Identify and resolve design and integration issues
15. Learn about customer needs via face-to-face meetings and pilot testing of prototypes.
16. Demonstrate at trade shows to create and maximise opportunities
17. Presentation of technology development and its results
