Responsibilities:
1. Provide a high standard of orthoptics to patients of all ages and with a wide variety of orthoptic conditions.
2. Be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring individual Orthoptic treatment plans/care pathways for patients of all ages using advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
3. Make decisions and offer advice about the orthoptic care of a child as part of a multi-disciplinary team of ophthalmologists, orthoptists, optometrists, medical photographers, ophthalmic technicians, nurses, clerical staff, and secretarial staff.
4. Undertake an orthoptic extended role in line with departmental requirements.
5. To provide Orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner.
6. Expected to work clinically to deliver a range of core Orthoptic services.
7. To provide Orthoptic assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients of all ages and abilities, planning, implementing, and monitoring individual Orthoptic treatment plans/care pathways using clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
8. To support Ophthalmology as required.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Diploma or Degree (BSc Hons or BMedSci in Orthoptics) & registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
2. Previous orthoptic experience (applications welcome from newly qualified graduates and appointment will be to band 5 if no previous experience).
3. Sound clinical experience and judgement underpinned by a specialist theoretical knowledge base.
4. Enthusiasm and motivation.
A unique experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a district general hospital. We have regular teaching sessions and support for CPD activities and opportunities for training others too.
