The role
As a Senior Supportability Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll join a team working on one of the most complex support arrangements in operation in the UK today. You will manage this by ensuring that you know what is fitted to every Royal Navy submarine, where it is fitted, who supplies it and how it is fitted.
Day-to-day, you'll manage a team of Supportability Engineers whilst applying engineering domain knowledge in support of Future Submarine Programmes (FSM) for the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Function within Submarine Support Engineering (SSE).
1. Leading a team of Supportability Engineers
2. Working with the Principal Supportability Engineer to escalate, manage and mitigate technical risks
3. Being involved in one of the three parts of the programme; influencing design of the submarine, developing an in-service support solution and ensuring the submarine can be maintained within safe operating limits.
4. Authoring and technical review of engineering documentation
5. Acting as an interface in the Barrow-in-Furness office between Babcock and our industrial partners.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Senior Supportability Engineer
6. Project management experience or qualifications would be advantageous as the role requires the delivery of documentation to time and budget.
7. Experience operating within the Defence sector or equivalent large-scale sector
8. Experience and understanding of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) and its application and benefits to the products / programmes it is applied.
9. Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision but the confidence to seek guidance where required to ensure the optimal output.
10. Ability to identify areas for improvement and future development opportunities.
11. Experience working with complex data and an evolving set of requirements and the ability to produce and enact credible solutions.
Qualifications for the Senior Supportability Engineer
12. Degree Level qualification in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics discipline however we will consider applicants that can demonstrate relevant vocational experience if this isn't held.
13. Hold, or be willing to proactively work towards, professional recognition as an Incorporated / Chartered Engineer with an appropriate Engineering Institution.
