More detail about the role The post-holder will be mentored by a practicing consultant surgeon who has specific time allocated to this. The post will start from August 2025 for 12 months. The post holder will be fully on the on-call SHO rota; a 1:16 full shift pattern. The on-call team consists of a consultant, registrar, SHO and F1. In addition, there will also be approx 10 days service commitment over 16 week rota cycle but the rest of the time will be free for quality improvement and research. The Exeter Colorectal Unit provides a full range of colorectal services. The following subspecialties are therefore covered: Core colorectal surgery and diagnostics Laparoscopy colorectal surgery Advanced Pelvic oncology Functional bowel disease/Pelvic Floor Disease Intestinal failure and complex inflammatory bowel disease including pouch surgery. Problem stomas Complex abdominal wall reconstruction surgery The Colorectal team as of August 2025 will consist of 14 consultant surgeons who form the integrated Emergency General Surgery rota in addition to 6 Upper GI surgeons.
