Fabrication Estimator The estimator’s role is to calculate and predict the costs associated with an engineering job or project, including materials, labour, equipment, consumables and other expenses. They will analyse project plans, technical drawings, specifications, and other documentation to determine the scope of work and required resources. They will also gather quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, assess project risks, and prepare bids and quotations liaising with colleagues throughout the business and effectively utilise our Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP). Key Responsibilities: The Fabrication Estimator will be the Fabrication Department’s lead for collating pricing proposals for standard jobs and larger projects. This will include the following: Project Scope: Analyse project plans, technical drawings, specifications, and documentation to understand the scope of work. Cost Analysis: Determine the cost of materials, labour, equipment, and other expenses for a job/project. Quote Gathering: Research and obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for necessary materials and services. Risk Assessment: Assess financial, technical, and operational risks associated with a project and clearly articulate where required to the Leadership Team. Bidding and Quotation: Prepare proposals/bids and quotations for new jobs, contracts and projects. Cost Control: Monitor project progress and track costs against estimates to ensure they remain within budget. Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of project costs, quotes, and other relevant information. Liaison: Work with project managers, work leads, and other members of the delivery team. Software Proficiency: Build quotes on ERP system and utilize relevant software for planning, scheduling, and cost analysis. Communication: Clearly communicate estimates and recommendations to clients, the Leadership Team and project stakeholders. Skills, Qualifications Experience: Industry Experience: Prior experience in a Fabrication and Welding/engineering environment is essential. Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant engineering principles and practices across a wide range of sectors is essential. Analytical and Mathematical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are crucial for accurate cost estimation. Financial Acumen: Good understanding of financial concepts and cost accounting principles is necessary. Software Proficiency: Ability to navigate way around relevant software and ERP systems is essential. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed for preparing proposals, bids, presenting estimates, and collaborating with all stakeholders. Detail-Oriented: Estimators need to be highly detail-oriented to accurately analyse project plans, specifications and requirements. Problem-Solving: Need to be agile and adaptable and able to multitask. Also able to identify and address potential cost overruns and other project issues. CAD Skills: Ability to use CAD software for Fabrication design/drawings would be highly advantageous. Flexible Working: We offer flexible working routines, 38.5 hour standard week over a 4 day compressed week, or standard 5 day week with an early or later start as best suits the incumbent
