Career Opportunities
The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Teaching Hospital
We have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly acute occupational therapy service.
You will work with minimal supervision to implement agreed occupational therapy plans as prescribed by the qualified occupational therapist, including ongoing assessment, evaluation, and management of patients. You will identify the need for changes in discussion with the qualified therapist or practitioner and will be supported to develop these skills and experience within a dedicated therapy team.
The current opportunity is within the integrated stroke unit (encompassing hyperacute, acute and rehabilitation post stroke). However, the Occupational Therapy service covers both the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Western General Hospital across a variety of clinical specialities (such as Medicine of the Elderly, Orthopaedics, Surgical, Cardiology, Respiratory). Depending on existing internal interest, the clinical specialty recruited to may change.
Having an awareness of the role of occupational therapy in the acute or rehabilitation setting and clearly demonstrating this in your application is essential. You will be compassionate, have good communication (verbal and written) and time management skills, and work well within a team.
We have a forward-thinking, strong leadership team in place and are committed to developing staff within the service. Occupational therapy and AHPs are well represented and respected across the service.
There will be a commitment to weekend working in the occupational therapy team at RIE as part of the 5 over 7 day working pattern. We have strong network links via an excellent bus service and an easily accessible free Park and Ride car park nearby. Therapy Services actively support staff development through appraisal process, supervision, and CPD opportunities.
