About this Trainee LD and A post based within Primary Care at Solar
This is a 1-year, fixed term post inclusive of a University Course and clinical work as a senior practitioner based in a CAMHS team.
We are looking for vibrant, creative staff that are just as passionate about the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people as we are.
The Post-Graduate Certificate in Autism-Learning Disabilities at CYP-IAPT, Psychological Therapies Training Centre (Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust), aims to equip practitioners with the skills necessary to improve access and outcomes for children and young people with Autism and/or Learning Disabilities. The course is part-time for one year, and trainees use teaching, self-directed study and supervised clinical practice to achieve the following outcomes:
* Increased understanding of the challenges faced by this client group, both from aspects of their conditions and from social structures which do not meet their needs
* Ability to identify and assess Autism and LD using neurodevelopmental history taking and observation (the course does not include ADOS training)
* Increased knowledge of interventions which target core symptoms
* Knowledge and practice of post-diagnostic psychoeducation approaches
* Knowledge and practice of effective assessment, formulation, intervention and evaluation with behaviour that challenges
* Training in “Riding the Rapids”, a group parent-training approach to support CYP with behaviour that challenges
* Knowledge and practice of adaptations to existing skills in intervention in mental health conditions, to improve access and effectiveness of interventions such as CBT, counselling and systemic therapy
Solar are looking for individuals who are highly motivated, adaptable and flexible in their approach. Balancing the demands of the course with the fast-paced nature of the role can be difficult, therefore excellent organisational skills and time management are a must. In order to be successful in obtaining this role, you need to complete a successful interview with Solar and gain entry onto the University course.
Of your hours, you will be expected to attend roughly 1.5 working days per week at university and the rest of the working week will be spent at Solar completing your senior practitioner role. As you develop your skills as a trainee, you will be expected to deliver interventions and assessments using a variety of mediums to children and young people with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism. You will be fully supervised throughout the course.
The senior practitioner element of this role provides opportunities to develop as a practitioner/therapist, deliver evidence-based interventions to children and young people in the Solihull area and develop leadership/supervisory skills and experience. You will also be working with a cluster of schools in Solihull, specifically our SEND/AP cluster, on their approach to mental health and provision for this in school. We are a trauma-informed service offering holistic, collaborative care with the child's voice always at the centre.
