We have an exciting opportunity to join the Occupational Team here at Melbury Lodge.
This Band 6 Occupational Therapist role is an exciting opportunity to work within an Older Persons Mental Health Unit, supporting patients with complex mental health needs such as dementia, depression, or anxiety disorders. You will deliver person-centred interventions aimed at enhancing patient's functional abilities, independence, and quality of life.
Main duties of the job
As a Band 6 OT your main duties will include conducting comprehensive assessments of patient's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social needs, considering the impact of their mental health conditions. You will develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans that promote recovery, well-being, and functional independence. You will utilise standardized assessment tools and clinical judgement to complete care planning. You will be expected to support patients in developing coping mechanisms and adapting to their environments. You will help with providing therapy sessions and one-to-one interventions tailored to patient's needs. You will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team (MDT), including nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, to deliver holistic care. You will attend and contribute to case discussions, care reviews, and discharge planning meetings. You will be expected to provide specialist advice to the MDT regarding occupational performance and functional abilities. You will provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior OTs, therapy assistants, and students on placements. You will be expected to engage in continuous professional development to maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills, attend relevant training, workshops, and conferences. This role requires a dynamic and compassionate OT who can balance clinical responsibilities and professional development to deliver outstanding care for older adults with mental health needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma or Degree in OT.
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
* Practice placement qualification within one year of employment.
* Post graduate training relevant to older persons mental health.
Experience
* 3 years post registration experience including at least 2 years within mental health.
* Experience of audit procedures.
* Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions relevant to client group.
* Understanding of OT outcome measures.
* Detailed knowledge of mental health legislation and current practice.
* Detailed knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application.
* Experience of a range of mental health settings.
* Supervision of junior staff and students.
* Leadership and first line management experience.
* Presentation and training skills.
