Postdoctoral Scientist
Salary: £41,344 per annum
Fixed term: 3 years
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scientist position in Dr Ingo Greger’s laboratory at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), Cambridge. The research focuses on synaptic AMPA glutamate receptors, using diverse approaches: structural biology (cryo-EM/cryo-ET), cell biology, or electrophysiology.
The successful candidate will use their expertise to investigate the molecular basis of synaptic transmission mediated by diverse AMPA receptor complexes. We aim to delineate synaptic receptor function, structure, and organisation at the angstrom and nanoscales. This project builds on our previous structural, functional, and imaging studies.
The role involves independent work and collaboration with Labs at LMB and with AstraZeneca. There will be ample opportunity to learn new techniques and refine existing ones.
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in a relevant subject (or due to complete a PhD within 6 months), experience with protein biochemistry and structural biology. Evidence of strong experimental skills is strongly desirable as well as creativity to solve problems.
This is a three-year training and development position suitable for you if you have recently completed your doctoral studies or are looking to move into a new research discipline and/or need to further develop your research skills. Working with our world-class scientists you will be working in an Institute renowned for its excellent scientific facilities and high-quality research.
LMB has a collaborative working culture and state-of-the-art building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We have on-site parking, cycle enclosures, and excellent public transport links to the site. We have a staff restaurant with a roof terrace and access to a Campus nursery and sports and social facilities. You will be eligible to join our defined benefit pension scheme with an employer contribution of 16%, holiday entitlement of 40.5 days per annum (including bank holidays and privilege days), and a generous employee discount scheme. We are also committed to providing training and development opportunities including support towards role-related qualifications.
The LMB is a world-class research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). More information can be found at www.ukri.org and www.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk.
Closing date: Thursday 20th February 2025
