Overall purpose of the position:
To support vulnerable adults with care needs, stay safe and happy in their own homes and to give family members a break so they can continue to care. Our service aims to provide High Quality Flexible Services that respond to individual needs.
You will:
• Build strong and supportive relationships with unpaid carers and people with care needs so we can really provide person centred care and meet their identified needs.
• Provide personal, social, and domestic care.
• Treat everyone with respect and dignity including provision of choice in how their care is delivered and maintaining their confidentiality.
Main duties and responsibilities:
• Visit people in their homes to support and ensure they have a safe and secure environment for their needs.
• Listen to the carer and person with care needs to ensure that they have as much choice and control over their lives as is possible.
• Deliver the care and support that they need to enable them to live as independently as they can.
This role will require an individual approach, so the following list of tasks is indicative and cannot cover everything a care worker may be asked to do. All tasks will be detailed in the Care Plan and will have been appropriately risk assessed.
• Provide support to the carer, including requesting additional support when needed.
• Preparing meals and assisting with feeding if needed
• Changing sheets and essential laundry
• Assisting with personal hygiene including washing, dressing and incontinence care/ support.
• Assist with mobility correctly using specialist equipment provided. (Full training will be given)
• Remind, prompt or administer prescribed medication as per assessment.
• Support the individual to maintain their interests and hobbies in the home or community as appropriate and indicated in the Care Plan.
• Keep accurate records in line with all policies and procedures.
• Report any significant changes and or concerns immediately to the Care team or Service Manager.
Training and Support:
Anyone new to care will be enrolled on the Care Certificate with full pay. We provide a full induction for all new staff which includes all Carers in Hertfordshire services.
All staff will also be given shadowing opportunities, regular supervision, and team meetings as well as opportunities for further training and career progression if desired.
