Job Description
Within our highly skilled and multi-disciplined Maternity Service at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, unique and fulfilling opportunities have become available in the position of Band 6 Midwife.
As a Band 6 Midwife, you will have the opportunity to work across our busy hospital based maternity services, work within the community setting or within our highly sought-after Continuity of Career teams.

Main duties of the job
* To be a confident competent autonomous practitioner who practices within the sphere of the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and Trust guidelines
* To be responsible for delivering and maintaining a high standard of day-to-day evidence based practice for all women and babies in the designated clinical area/caseload
* To maintain and continually develop in-depth specialist knowledge of midwifery practice relevant to the individual clinical area
* To engage with women and their families to encourage and promote woman centred care, normalising their experience as much as possible
* To provide support and to deputise for the Band 7 as and when required
* To be a source of reference regarding Health Education and Social Care
* To act as mentor for student midwives and other junior staff/learners

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Current RM registration with the NMC and any other relevant post registration qualifications
* Minimum of 1 year post RM qualification with evidence of continuing learning
Experience
Essential criteria
* Able to meet the following competencies with a minimum of 4 assessed and signed off as competent at commencement of band 6 post, the remaining competencies will be needed to be achieved within 2 years of qualification: Perineal repair and completion of suturing workshop/OASI training
* Perform and interpret intermittent fetal heart auscultation and CTGs. Perform IV Cannulation, venepuncture and administration of IV drugs
* Management of PCEA Epidurals
* Conducting labour in water and water birth. Parent Education. Conduct and manage antenatal ward/clinics
* Able to coach students and new staff members
* Evidence of ward management/teaching (formal/informal)
* Teaching and assessing course
* Provide support to bereaved families, including labour care
* Completed IA and CTG E-Learning for health and completion of fetal monitoring mandatory training
* Other professional courses relevant to area
