Clinical leadership of the AHPs across Cancer specialist field pan BCUHB Development of Advanced Clinical Practice in Patient Care Performance of high quality clinical service delivery supporting service development. Development, leadership and monitoring of AHPs working in Cancer Services and wider clinical practice in treating patients with Cancer Education and supervision of qualified and unqualified AHP staff working in Cancer Services. Research and audit in the relevant field Main duties of the job The post holder will plan, lead and be responsible for the delivery and development of practice in the specialist area. They will provide advice to the BCUHB wide Cancer Network Group using research, audit, and education to inform. They will develop AHP services for patients with Cancer and work in partnership with the other Clinical Specialists in Cancer services to develop clinical services. To work as an autonomous practitioner to work with the team to deliver care within your relevant specialism throughout BCUHB. Using evidence-based principles/ current best practice and advanced specialist skills and clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. To initiate, lead and develop regular research, audit, evaluation and implementation of evidence based practice within specialised field and support other AHP staff within the service who are undertaking research projects. Working at a high clinical level within the service, the post holder will be expected to act as a source of clinical expertise and knowledge to AHP’s and other professionals both internal and external to the organisation. To report on findings and advise on recommended management across the whole patient pathway, which includes prevention, acute, community, long term and end of life care. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities Clinical Practice To demonstrate professional knowledge /skills and clinical reasoning to deal with complex cases within the field of Cancer Services To demonstrate advanced critical thinking and analytical skills to support clinical judgment and decision making process To carry a clinical caseload providing advice and guidance to other staff on complex cases within professional field To be recognised as a highly skilled clinician within area of speciality, using a wide range of highly specialised and evidence based therapeutic interventions, treatment techniques and modalities. To carry out comprehensive assessments of patients as an autonomous practitioner, particularly those with highly complex presentations To keep comprehensive ,accurate records which support the clinical reasoning process in the assessment and treatment of all patients, which meet departmental, Health Board and Professional standards To be able to carry and prioritise your own designated clinical caseload, working as an autonomous practitioner To undertake appropriate specialised interventions for patients ,and where appropriate make appropriate referral to other members of the Multidisciplinary team when indicated To work with clinical specialists to develop and monitor high quality standards of AHP care based on national guidelines ,evidence based practice, clinical audit and education opportunities To be professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of professional practice including the management of patients in your care Management and Clinical Leadership Lead clinical service delivery with the support and assistance of other AHPs working in Cancer Care To work with AHPs working in cancer care to promote high clinical standards within AHP services To practice and promote effective caseload management and efficient/effective use of resources within the specialist area To be responsible for the safe and effective use of all equipment utilised and for the advice to other staff, patients and carers in relation to suitability and instruction for use To lead and chair a local AHP Clinical Network Group relevant to specialist area. To identify and undertake specific projects as required in order to improves services and outcomes to patients .To develop effective communicate with Team Leaders regarding prospective work programme To review current practice and evidence base, make recommendations to the Therapy and Cancer Services Management teams through delegated authority and advanced negotiating skills, implement change to practice as appropriate Promote and support independent non medical prescribing amongst cancer AHP’s (tumour specific and specialist palliative care) to improve patient care. Work collaboratively with the Lead Clinicians to support the delivery of the local and national cancer agenda and the Cancer Delivery Plan. Advocate effectively for all AHP services, representing the Clinical Director of Therapy Services at relevant fora. Work with the therapy leadership teams, in particular the professional leads, to develop and promote the role of AHPs in Cancer service business planning. Work collaboratively with colleagues in primary, community and social care, including General Practitioners, community and practice nurses and staff to improve communication and rehabilitative care during transitions between primary/community and secondary care. This will include support for service improvement initiatives and leading change initiatives. Education & Training To lead the planning, organisation, delivery and evaluation of in service education and learning programme within the specialist field. To be responsible for the development and evaluation of post graduate training programmes across the BCU service. To be responsible for the education of other health care professionals regarding the role of AHP Cancer Lead. To ensure that educational opportunities are developed for the wider staff group. To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activities and maintaining a portfolio which reflects personal development and lifelong learning. To provide clinical supervision and undertake PDRs for relevant staff, linking in with Team Leaders for operational/performance issues. Map the education needs for therapies working in cancer / palliative care across BCUHB and work with colleagues to support the delivery of learning and development opportunities. To advise the Therapy and Cancer Services management teams on undergraduate and post graduate training. To be responsible for ensuring the development of current knowledge of all staff within specialist field through implementation of clinical effectiveness and evidence based strategies and analysis of current research Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria HCPC registered Evidence of CPD and post registration activity through portfolio, relevant to the post Masters level education or demonstrable equivalent Desirable criteria Post graduate Leadership or management programme.
