The role holder will be the first line of support to the Senior Research Laboratory Technician and provide an essential organisational and minor administrative service. They will act as a central link between staff and research personnel proactively supporting the day-to-day and long-term management of the section.
The duties will include providing and maintaining a high-level technical service throughout the research floor including laboratory waste management, setting up and maintaining laboratory equipment, and demonstrating the equipment to research personnel. When trained, the role holder will also deputise in part when the Senior Research Laboratory Technician is absent.
* When fully trained this is a grade 4 role so the salary will be £25,742 - £29,605.
* Secondment Cover: The funds for this post are available from 30/09/2024 until 29/09/2025 or the return of the post holder whichever is the earlier. However, the role holder has indicated they may return at the end of March 2025.
We are looking for a self-motivated either experienced or trainee laboratory technician for a chemistry research floor at the Department of Chemistry. The section is predominantly based on one floor and consists of 8 research groups, all requiring a high level of technical support., The successful candidate will be flexible and adaptable, have a willingness to learn and be able to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team. They will already be qualified to HNC level or equivalent in Chemistry or Physical Sciences or have relevant experience. If a trainee, the successful candidate will be educated to A level standard and have a willingness to learn all aspects of practical chemistry. Any training required will be varied, including on the job learning, and will cover all aspects of becoming a Research Laboratory Technician.
