York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking to invite applicants to join our dynamic Dermatology team at York Hospital.
Applications are invited for dermatologists to join our current team of 10 Consultants. The Trust provides a full range of general dermatology services. There are two dedicated dermatological theatres and facilities for PDT, phototherapy and patch testing. Day case theatres for complex surgical procedures are available.
The department employs a team of specialist nurses providing dermatological surgery, skin cancer clinics and chronic inflammatory disease management.
The department is also supported by an associate specialist, 2 Specialty Registrars, 3 GPVTS Trainees, a physician's assistant and is in the process of recruiting advanced nurse practitioners in skin cancer.
There are close links with other specialties, such as Maxillofacial surgery, Plastic surgery and Rheumatology.
The dermatology team is active in research with several ongoing industry-sponsored and in-house research projects supported by research nurses. Whilst this is a general dermatology post, successful candidates would be encouraged to develop a special interest.
Posts would include undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and participation in the daytime on-call rota.
Main duties of the job
The post will be based at York Hospital; however, flexible job plans to suit applicants can be discussed and may include working at one of our peripheral hospitals. We currently cover dermatology services in York, Scarborough, Malton and Selby. To support our services, consultants are expected to work cross-site.
Candidates must have a higher medical qualification (MRCP or equivalent), be on the GMC Specialist Register for Dermatologists, or be within six months of obtaining their CCT, CESR, or European Community Rights at the time of interview. A familiarity with issues of service organisation and development would be particularly advantageous.
Successful candidates would be encouraged to develop a special interest that would support the department. There is an expectation that the post will include participation in the daytime on-call cover which is supported by our two specialty trainees. Posts would include undergraduate and postgraduate teaching; the department has close links with Hull and York Medical School (HYMS) offering interested candidates opportunities for extended undergraduate teaching or the development of roles within the medical school.
