Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for somebody who either already has experience or knowledge in the business rates or council tax sector or for someone who wants to learn and gain experience in a key area of any commercial property business.
This role will be office based in Manchester. Initially, you will work with the current business rates advisor before she leaves for maternity. This will be a fantastic opportunity for you to gain insight into how MCR Property handles the business rates liability across their vast property portfolio before taking over responsibility for managing all aspects of the business rates across our entire property portfolio.

Business rates experience is desirable but not essential.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Dealing with all the incoming business rate demands, reminders, summons, and enforcement notices.
2. Managing and approving bills for the full MCR Property portfolio comprising of over 70 sites and in excess of 2,000 hereditaments.
3. Managing our residential and student Council Tax portfolios to secure exemptions and the correct transfer of liabilities to tenants.
4. Managing our commercial portfolio to secure exemptions and the correct transfer of liabilities to tenants.
5. Liaising with site managers to discuss effective mitigation strategies across different portfolios such as industrial, retail shopping centres, and office developments.
6. Calculating business rates and Council Tax savings, including obtaining refunds on any overpayments and successful appeals.
7. Liaising with Local Authorities to maintain correct liability details and any further queries.
8. Updating and issuing monthly tenancy schedules to Local Authorities.
9. Keeping and maintaining accurate folders of all business rate demands received.
