To provide residents with the highest standard of basic care and support, in accordance with the Home’s philosophy of care and the individual care plan.
To act in accordance with the policies and procedures of the home.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To build up good relationships with the residents under his/her direct care and to provide them with daily care to help them maintain and improve, where possible, their independence, individuality and mobility.
2. To assist the residents to carry out their activities of daily living e.g. washing, dressing, eating and bathing.
3. To assist with serving meals and drinks to residents and their visitors adhering strenuously to Food Hygiene regulations.
4. To help the residents choose from the menu and assist them with eating. Report comments on food and requests for particular dishes to the Chef Manager.
5. To take care of the residents clothing, ensuring the correct collection, distribution and return of all laundered items.
6. To carry out bed making and changing of linen.
7. To keep the residents rooms and communal areas tidy at all times, ensuring a safe environment.
8. To ensure the security of the residents’ property and that of the Home. Report and hand in any lost property.
9. To carry out duties in such a way as to ensure the economical and safe use of resources and equipment.
10. To participate in the programme of activities for the residents.
11. To assist qualified staff in the admission of new residents.
12. To assist Registered Nurses, under supervision and where appropriate, to carry out their clinical responsibilities for the residents e.g. hygiene care, wound dressings.
13. To assist qualified staff in the on-going assessment of the residents, reporting any changes to the Person in Charge.
14. To assist in the orientation of new staff.
15. To adopt a neat, clean and tidy appearance at all times and wear the appropriate uniform as supplied by the Home.
16. To be helpful and courteous to residents and visitors, referring enquiries about the residents’ condition to the Person in Charge.
17. To report all comments, compliments and complaints.
18. To report any defects, damage, theft, breakages or hazards.
19. To be familiar with the policies and procedures and the Employee Handbook.
20. To attend training sessions organised in-house.
21. To maintain accurate and legible records of care provided. Complete other assessment documentation under the supervision of a qualified Person.
22. To attend fire evacuation and instruction sessions.
23. To carry out other duties as well, from time to time as directed.
24. To carry out all duties in a safe manner having regard to the Health and Safety of self, colleagues, residents and visitors to the Home.
25. To ensure adherence to the Company ‘No smoking’ policy at all times whilst on site.
