Job summary Assistant Practitioner Band 4 Full time - 37. hours Permanent We are looking for keen, proactive and suitably qualified individuals to join our small but friendly team. We are a fully computerised laboratory with electronic links to the wards and local GPs. Biochemistry operates Beckman Coulter Technology whereas Blood Transfusion operates Ortho Vision Technology, with some manual work also associated with both roles. Main duties of the job The post holder will be expected to assist with the day-to-day support of routine laboratory, tasks include processing and supporting the department with escalation to the BMS and advanced BMS in department. All work performed will be in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and Protocols to facilitate the provision of accurate and timely results. To attend meetings as appropriate. To participate in training of the Medical Laboratory Assistants and other staff where deemed appropriate by Advanced (Senior) Biomedical Scientist and/or Department Manager. To plan and organise their own work. To ensure all equipment and work areas are kept clean and tidy. To assist in monitoring blood stocks and reagents and dealing with outstanding work. To carry out corrective action and inform the Advanced (Senior) Biomedical Scientist in Blood Sciences of any event which may cause a service delivery failure. To communicate with all departments in hospital, GP's and other institutes regarding sample and sample handling including information on all tests to ensure the service is maintained to a very high standard. To understand and follow all BCSH and trust guidelines and policies in Blood Transfusion. To communicate any relevant information to laboratory colleagues within the section and to inform effectively at hand over.
