Epsom College in Malaysia seeks to appoint a Careers and University Guidance Counsellor to join us.
Key Purpose of the Role :
* Provide personalised career guidance and university counselling to support students in identifying and achieving their future goals.
* Equip students with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to explore diverse career pathways and higher education opportunities globally.
* Facilitate the development of critical life skills, including communication, leadership, and financial literacy, to prepare students for success beyond school.
* Guide students through the university application process, including researching programs, preparing applications, and meeting global admissions requirements.
* Foster partnerships with universities, industries, and organizations to create internships, mentorships, and enrichment opportunities for students.
* Organise events such as career fairs, university visits, and networking opportunities to expand students’ exposure to career and education options.
* Maintain and provide access to comprehensive resources on career exploration, university admissions, scholarships, and financial aid.
* Collaborate with school staff to support students with diverse needs, including those with EAL, SEND, or alternative career pathways.
* Track and report on student progress in career readiness and university acceptances to evaluate program effectiveness and improve outcomes.
* Stay updated on emerging trends in education, employment, and global university systems to ensure students receive relevant and timely advice.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Career Planning and Guidance:
* Assist students in identifying strengths, interests, and potential career paths through personalised counselling.
* Provide tailored advice on career opportunities, vocational pathways, and apprenticeships.
* Develop individualised career plans and support students in setting goals.
* Deliver workshops on job application techniques, CV writing, and interview skills.
2. University Applications and Higher Education Pathways:
* Guide students in researching and selecting universities aligned with their academic goals and personal preferences.
* Support students in preparing applications, personal statements, essays, and interviews.
* Provide detailed advice on global university systems (e.g., UK, US, Canada, Europe, Australia) and their requirements.
* Assist with standardized test preparation (e.g., SAT, ACT, IELTS, TOEFL).
3. Skills Development and Workshops:
* Conduct sessions on soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and time management.
* Facilitate workshops on leadership, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy to prepare students for life beyond school.
4. Networking and Partnerships:
* Build relationships with universities, industry professionals, and organizations to expand opportunities for students.
* Coordinate visits from university representatives and organize career fairs and networking events.
* Develop partnerships for internships, job-shadowing, and mentorship opportunities.
5. Resource Development and Delivery:
* Maintain a library of resources on careers, higher education, scholarships, and financial aid.
* Introduce students to digital tools for career exploration and university applications.
6. Individualised Support:
* Provide one-on-one guidance to students for both career planning and university applications.
* Develop individual learning and career pathways for students with diverse needs, including those with EAL or SEND.
7. Monitoring and Reporting:
* Track student progress in career readiness and university applications, providing regular updates to school leadership.
* Monitor application outcomes, offer rates, and acceptances to evaluate program effectiveness and identify improvements.
8. Community and Industry Engagement:
* Organise events to connect students with alumni, employers, and university representatives.
* Foster relationships with local and global communities to expand service-learning and enrichment opportunities.
9. Training and Professional Development:
* Stay updated on emerging trends in higher education and employment markets.
* Provide training to staff on supporting students with career and university planning
Qualifications and Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counselling, Psychology, or a related field.
* Proven experience in career and university counselling in a school or similar environment.
* Knowledge of global university systems, vocational pathways, and job markets.
* Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with attention to detail.
* Familiarity with digital platforms for career exploration and university applications (e.g., UCAS, Common App).
Skills and Competencies:
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to inspire and motivate students toward ambitious goals.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
* Advanced user of the Unifrog platform
* Familiar with UK and US university application process
Working Conditions:
* Full-time position with occasional evening or weekend commitments during peak application seasons or events.
