Role responsibilities As Pensions Operations Lead, you will ensure the company pension scheme maintains good governance, manage pension risks and costs, and strive to ensure pension scheme members receive the correct benefits, information and guidance about their retirement savings. You will provide technical guidance, knowledge and expertise on pension related matters at all levels within the company, whilst managing 2 direct reports and two sections of the Railways Pension Defined Benefit Scheme (DB) and two Defined Contribution pension schemes (DC). Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Maintaining relationships with Trade Unions, professional advisers and external Pension Administrators Offer guidance and interpretation of complex pension issues to members of the senior leadership team. Monitor and comment on DB Scheme funding and consequent impact on the Company’s accounts. Oversight and audit of all pension-related administrative processes Project manage the annual scheme review ensuring all data affecting pension benefits is accurate proving training and instruction where appropriate. Draft and regularly review member communications, member booklets, fact sheets and mandatory statistical returns comply with Pension legislation including Workplace Pensions, Regulatory requirements and HMRC rules. Recommend and implement changes when necessary. Deliver and internally manage any Railpen or Legal & General pension related initiatives and monitor all pension provider service delivery standards. Offer technical guidance to the Executive leadership team, the TfW Finance Director and the Welsh Minister as required to manage DB scheme solvency, accounting requirements and long-term pension liabilities. Who we’re looking for Associate Level membership to the Pension Management Institute. Demonstrable experience of managing multiple DB and DC pensions schemes. Good knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements relating to pension schemes and pension benefits. Experience of Pension Scheme Governance and influencing senior leadership teams or public stakeholders. Ability to write comprehensive pension briefing papers together with clear and concise member communications. Previous experience within the Rail sector and the railways pension scheme is desirable but not essential. Welsh Language Skills The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role. Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language by employees and will encourage them to develop, improve and maintain their Welsh Language skills.
