As part of the Corporate Affairs Transmission team, you'll be responsible for leading SSEN Transmission's engagement with Local Authority Executive Teams, Councillors and Committees, working closely with colleagues across the business and the wider industry to help meet business objectives and support the transition to net zero emissions.
You'll form part of a team of regionally based Local Authority Engagement Managers, responsible for supporting the development and delivery of SSEN Transmission's major capital investment projects across the north of Scotland.
As a Local Authority Engagement Manager, you'll play a key role in building advocacy within local authority areas to facilitate the smooth implementation of our major projects. Your work will be essential for building positive relationships and ensuring that critical infrastructure is delivered with local context and knowledge in mind.
You'll identify challenges and propose solutions, working closely with internal teams. Additionally, you'll coordinate communication strategies to maintain our strong reputation.
Key responsibilities for this role will include:
1. Building, promoting, protecting and enhancing the profile, aims, values and reputation of SSEN Transmission with key stakeholders through external engagement, communications, public and media relations.
2. Design, execute, monitor and review Local Authority engagement programmes to build advocacy for SSEN Transmission's business priorities, including to help support the development and delivery of SSEN Transmission's major projects.
3. Proactively build alliances with wider stakeholders, advocating on behalf of SSEN Transmission's customers and stakeholders, protecting the interests of current and future GB consumers and tackling the climate emergency; working with colleagues to coordinate support for advocacy priorities via communications, public affairs and regulatory functions.
What do I need?
We are looking for individuals who can effectively liaise with stakeholders and drive project success through:
1. Exceptional communications and engagement skills and experience, to communicate the positive contribution that SSEN Transmission is making to the social, environmental and economic wellbeing of the country and the regions in which the company is operating.
2. First class interpersonal skills enabling you to build and maintain strong working relationships internally and externally whilst clearly explaining complex issues in a simple and compelling way to build credibility and trust with external stakeholders and within the business.
3. Open and flexible work style to adapt to changing priorities and a dynamic external environment, with an ability to work in a pressurised environment to tight deadlines and a willingness to commit to and deliver long-term strategic objectives.
4. Experience/understanding of the energy industry and/or within Local Government.
